The proportion of skilled Nepali foreign migrants varies across different reports and timeframes. According to the Nepal Labour Migration Report 2022, approximately 38% of labor approvals were issued to skilled workers, while 7.4% were for semi-skilled workers. However, other sources indicate a lower percentage; for instance, data from the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Services suggests that only 1.5% of Nepali migrants are skilled, with 24% semi-skilled and 74.5% unskilled.
In this context, Youth Skills Empowerment Nepal is a collective dream and the efforts of every Nepali.
The discrepancy in these figures may be attributed to differences in definitions of ‘skilled’ labor and the methodologies used in data collection. Nonetheless, it’s evident that a significant portion of Nepali migrants are engaged in unskilled or semi-skilled work abroad.
Efforts are underway to enhance the skill levels of the Nepali workforce. The government has been promoting skill development programs and establishing technical schools across municipalities to increase accessibility. Additionally, there is a growing trend of skilled Nepali workers seeking high-paying jobs abroad, particularly in countries like Japan, which has opened its labor market to Nepali caregivers and other professionals. risingnepaldaily.com, kathmandupost.com

Let’s be a part of this initiative and advocate for safer migration.
